AAU World Championships
Rhode Island Magic Florida Experience
OVERVIEW
Since 2016, our 8th grade boys' teams compete yearly in the AAU World Championships held at Disney's ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida. Teams from all over the United States participate in this event. This is an outstanding and memorable experience for the players as well as their families. The director holds a meeting at the beginning of each spring season to provide more information.
THE TOURNAMENT
Teams are guaranteed 4 games for the AAU World Championships. The tournament begins with a 3 game pool play and all teams advance to bracket play, which guarantees all teams a minimum of 4 games. Many years, teams have played 5 or more games. The tournament is held at the prestigious ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, located on Disney property.
DATES
The tournament is typically held the second or third week in July. Exact dates are communicated to the teams several months in advance to allow for travel plans to be made.
TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATIONS
Travel to and from Orlando is at the discretion of each family. RI Magic secures a hotel block for travel convenience. Historically, teams have stayed all together at one hotel. We have found this has added to the entire experience by allowing the players and families to enjoy down-time together.
PARENT AND PLAYER EXPERIENCES
"We all thought that this trip was absolutely wonderful! It was very well organized. We always knew when and where the team was playing. The hotel was clean and very close to the venues and to nearby attractions. It was not only a great team-building activity for the kids, but for the parents as well! Even though we sit on the sidelines with each other week after week, we really got to know one another on this trip and we truly had a great time! Thank you so much for taking the time to organize it for
the boys."
- Keith and Jenn
"I would just like to thank you for giving Dimitri the opportunity to play in Orlando with Coach Blouin. It was such an amazing experience for him. The boys really had a great time together. Thank you again and see you at tryouts in the fall. "
